Frequently Asked Questions

What is an SMC & why do I need it?

SMC stands for shoot, move, and communicate. We put the emphasis on communicate because that’s what our SMC line of products helps you do. We designed a cable to connect Kenwood K1-type radios such as Puxing, Wouxon, Baofeng, Kenwood, and many others to electronic earmuffs.

What does the SMC include?

Our SMC cable has a push-to-talk button with an integrated microphone at the top of the cable. At the bottom of the cable is your connection to the radio. The push-to-talk unit also has a built-in auxiliary port the same as an old-school cell phone. This lets you connect wired headphones, external speakers, vehicles, and of course electronic earmuffs.

Why should I buy the SMC instead of the other products on the market?

We set out to create a product connecting one of the most popular radios to one of the most popular ear pros (hearing protection) at the most affordable price. Most similar products on the market are 3 times the price. We also have an advantage, when you don’t want to run a radio, simply unplug from the ear pro, and stow your cable in a pocket. No need to look like the guy at the range trying too hard with dangling down-leads zip tied around the ear cups. Trust us, it’s not as cool of a look as you might think.

Which radios are compatible with SMC?

We have searched far and wide to identify compatible radios, but unfortunately, we don’t have hundreds of radios on hand for testing. For now, we have compiled a list of compatible radios down below. Verifying if your radio has a K-1 Type radio connection is up to you. We are also adding SMC models to our line of products so this list will be updated as we add new cables to the line. We currently have a UV9R version that works with the Baofeng waterproof models as well.

Yaesu single in for the FT60 and Yaesu 2 pin for the FT65R are also covered. The Yaesu 2 pin is the Motorola M1 cable so its compatible with Motorola 2 pin radio as well.
